This day in history

Some important things happened on this day in history . I will list the most noteable (to me) here:

  1. 1573 - Queen Anna of Austria born
  2. 1682 - Louis, duc de Bourgogne, dauphine of France born
  3. 1792 - Maximilien Robespierre presents the petition of the Commune of Paris to the Legislative Assembly, which demanded the formation of a revolutionary tribunal
  4. 1863 - Pres Lincoln prohibits Union states from trading with Confederacy
  5. 1898 - Roller coaster patented
  6. 1920 - Ray Chapman of the Cleveland Indians is hit in the head by a fastball thrown by Carl Mays of the New York Yankees, and dies early the next day. To date, Chapman is the only player to die from injuries sustained in a Major League Baseball game.
  7. 1921 - King Peter I of Serbia dies
  8. 1948 - Babe Ruth dies
  9. 1953 - Kathie Lee Gifford  and James Taylor (from Kook & the Gang) born
  10. 1954 - Sports Illustrated publishes it's first issue & James Cameron born
  11. 1956 - Bela Lugosi dies
  12. 1958 - Madonna was born
  13. 1960 - Timothy Hutton born
  14. 1962 - Steve Carell born

Something else not on this list happened on this day in history.  I was born in 1976!  As you can see from the list above, some very important things happened on this day.  I share birthdays with royalty, celebrities and some very important events, like the birth of roller coasters!  Where would Universal's Islands of Adverntures be without the roller coaster!

Today also marks the day that I am gifting all my Facebook Fans with 35% off items in my store in celebration of my birthday.  Please go on over, get your coupon, and use it to purchase some of the items from my store, and enjoy!

Mini Birthday Vacation

Since my birthday is Tuesday and my husbands was last week, we decided to go away for a weekend.  We went to Sanibel, Florida to do nothing but relax, and that's exactly what we did.  The hotel was super cute.  We stayed at the Island Inn, which has been around since 1895!  It was updated, but still had the feel of an older hotel in it's quaintness.  We had a screened balcony over looking the Gulf of Mexico and the pool.

There is a really beautiful lighthouse on the island.  The lighthouse was build also in the late 1800's and is visible from the bridge crossing onto the island.  It's part of a natural preserve so you can't go up into it, but I honestly don't know if I'd want to.  It looks scary.

We also went for some ice cream at a local place called Pinocchio's.  They have homemade ice cream and gelato's and with each ice cream, they put an animal cracker on top!  David's started to melt a little faster than anticipated and he almost lost his ice cream.

The beaches are beautiful and sand dunes are amazing.  We saw all kinds of things that I had never seen before.  There were really interesting shells, and we even saw a live sea urchin.  It had washed up and was still moving.  Me being the sucker I am for all things living, I threw it back into the ocean in hope that it will survive.

...and there were the sunsets.

So now play time is over and it's time to get back to work.  I have ideas for colorways I'd like to create based on this trip I took, so there may be some interesting things to come very soon.

Lazying around

-1059949021

This is something I don't have the benefit of doing today. I have a ton of things to get done but I wish I could spend my day laying around on a sofa doing nothing more but stretching and turning over every now and again.

Productive Day

I have been having a very productive day today.  I was able to finish a bobbin of white BFL and started a bobbin of handpainted 100% Merino.  I think I'll call this one Strawberry Cheesecake.  I was able to finish a little more than the pictures below, but I wanted ot make sure I caught the sun, so I took a picture of my progress 2 hours before I actually quit for the day.

There has also been some progress listing items on Etsy.  I was able to list 5 more yarns today.  Here's some pictures of those yarns I listed.

While going through all these yarns, I have been able to see my spinning progress over time.  I can tell where I was in my ability by looking at all these different yarns and comparing them to the bobbin I was spinning today.  I think I am a little more consistent now than I was 2 years ago, and that's a huge accomplishment.  I didn't think it was possible to be as consistent as I am right now because I always felt human error would step in and there would always be a little variation to the thickness of the yarn, but I think I'm getting to the point that the variations are so minute that they're almost non-existent.  I know I'll never spin as consistent as commercial yarn, but my goal is to come as close as possible.

So besides doing all this spinning, and getting all these listing put together, I also ran around town this morning ordering food and buying supplies for my husband's birthday party.  He's having a big one this year and I decided to throw him a party to celebrate.  Now that I'm finally done with my day, I go to my room and find Socks sleeping on my bed, as comfortable as I'd like to be.  She wasn't very thrilled that I interrupted her sleep to snap some pictures, even though she should be used to it by now.  But then my husband gave her a little ear rub and she went back to sleep.

Lazy cat Saturday

I wish I could spend my Saturday the way these little kitties are spending theirs, but there's a house to clean, food to be cooked, laundry to be cleaned, and yarn to be spun and knit. Maybe tomorrow I can be lazy?

Spring/Summer Twist Collective

I am seriously in love with this pattern, and a pattern named after me!!!  I'm flattered, but next time they really must learn to spell my name right.  (j/k)

Anyone else working on something from this issue of Twist Collective, or even the Lizette pattern?  Would love to see your progress!
